Do you need to go all out in every single workout to see results?
Is your training a waste of time if you are not drenched in sweat and gasping for air?
What if you just don’t feel like pushing to the absolute limit some days?
These are common questions, and I want to give you a better idea of what “intensity” really means, so you can understand how to train smart and actually enjoy the process.
What Is Intensity, Anyway?
We see it everywhere: HIIT classes, CrossFit, Hyrox, bootcamps, all full of big energy and serious sweat.
But intensity doesn’t just mean feeling wrecked at the end of a session.
In training terms, intensity simply means how hard you are working. That can come from lifting heavier weights, doing more reps or sets, moving faster, or even resting less.
So, a gentle pace with light weight and long rest? Low intensity.
Smashing out heavy squats with short rest? High intensity.
Now, yes, training with some intensity is important. That’s what creates change. You apply a challenge, and your body adapts, it gets stronger, fitter, more resilient.
But that doesn’t mean every workout needs to be a death march.
The real magic happens when you work at the right level for you. And that’s where coaching comes in.
Intensity Is Relative
What’s hard for one person might be easy for someone else.
Let’s say you are new to fitness. A light 20-minute strength session might feel like plenty. For a seasoned athlete, that same session might barely register.
It’s all about relative intensity, what’s challenging for you right now, based on your body, your lifestyle, and your goals.
Your ideal intensity will shift, too. Maybe you used to train super hard, but now you have got more stress, less sleep, or a new job. Going full throttle might actually be too much.
Or maybe you have been training consistently, eating better, sleeping well, your body is ready for a little more.
That’s why “harder” isn’t always better. What matters is what’s appropriate for you on that day.
So, How Hard Should You Train?
Here is the truth: any movement is better than none.
But to get stronger, fitter or leaner, you do need to challenge your body, with the right amount of intensity. Not too little, not too much.
And how do you know what that looks like?
You work with a coach who actually knows you.
At the Warriors’ Fitness Studio, we don’t just chuck you into a random workout and hope for the best. We get to know you, your goals, energy levels, sleep, stress, injuries, nutrition, everything.
Some days, you will walk in ready to smash it. Great, we will push the pace.
Other days, you will feel a bit off, and that’s fine. We adjust. You will still train, but at a level that supports recovery rather than drains you.
That’s the beauty of personal coaching. We guide the intensity so it works with your life, not against it.
